Escape The Fresher's Fair 2023
Northumbria University’s award winning Student’s Union invited Escape Newcastle to the 2023 Fresher’s Fair!
Escape Newcastle challenged Northumbria University’s Freshers students to complete a micro escape room as quickly as possible!
Designed by our very own game masters, the micro escape room was designed to introduce novices to the sorts of puzzles and concepts that can be expected inside an Escape Newcastle room.
Every team that completed the challenge was given a special 30% discount to use in-store on any room, with proof of student ID.
Over the course of two days, dozens of teams attempted to work together to top the leaderboard. Despite armfuls of freebies, coats, and bags, almost every team managed to complete the challenge in under 15 minutes.
But in the end, the fastest team took the winning spot by storm!
Our games masters Elsie and Emma represented Escape Newcastle, speaking to hundreds of students (new and returning alike), staff members, student reps and elected VPs, all in order to spread the word about the escape room boom!
Students from all nationalities, subject disciplines, ages and genders, all took a crack at solving out micro escape room.
The Escape Newcastle team had a blast talking with students, answering questions, and hearing about escape room experiences people have had in the past.
We also got cosy with many of the other businesses attending the Freshers Fair (and were sure to grab a couple freebies in the process!).
To cut to the chase, Escape Newcastle had a killer time!
THE CHALLENGE
Four locks, four co-ordinates - teams had to work together to find four codes within our four micro escape room boxes!
As part of the challenge, one member of the team nominated themself to slip their hands into the back of the box, trusting their teammates to guide their movements inside.
Once all four locks were removed, the team received a set of co-ordinates that helped them correctly place chess pieces on the table, ending the challenge.
THIRD PLACE: CROONERS
CROONERS set the bar high in third place with a final time of 6:18, working together to secure their spot on the podium!
In third place, CROONERS have won themselves their very own escape-room-in-a-box EXIT game to take home and play together!
Second place: malaysian boys
In second place, Team Malaysian Boys completed our challenge just a few seconds ahead of third place - and would have completed it sooner had they not needed to repeat the first puzzle!
The Malaysian Boys will receive their price of a 50% gift voucher for any of Escape Newcastle’s rooms, as well as an escape-room-in-a-box EXIT game to bring to their next flat party!

Team AA topped the leaderboard, despite being the second to last players of the day, and having never played an escape room game before!
The team have won a FREE escape room experience at with Escape Newcastle of their choosing, for them and their friends to share!
Team AA will also be receiving their very own escape-room-in-a-box EXIT game to take home!
